Adjusting to Covid-19, whilst feeding Southampton

The past two weeks have see the City Catering team being incredibly busy responding to the ever changing needs of serving Southampton's communities amidst Covid-19. We wanted to take the opportunity to give a brief update on it all.

You can also stay updated on our new, dedicated Covid-19 Response page, here.

Supporting schools

We are continuing to support Southampton schools, and adapting daily. This week, that means providing an average of 850 lunches per day, to children who are eligible for free school meals to collect, as well as for children of key workers and staff who are still attending school. We're also distributing over 1,300 food parcels for the families of children eligible for free school meals to ensure that students have access to nutritious meals at home, too. We’re honoured to keep supporting local pupils, school staff, and their communities.

Care meals
There has also been a significant increased demand for our care meal service. We are now providing more than 175 care meals per day, up approximately 75% from just last week. We've welcomed in new members to our care meals team, and are working in partnership with Vivid Homes, SCiA and Southampton City Council to keep meals moving across the city.

What can you do to help this week?
This week, we started our City Catering fundraising challenge! We’ll be posting our #CCSChallenge to give you some ideas of things you can do at home to keep busy and support us. Earlier this week, we asked our followers to help us celebrate City Catering Southampton’s 5th Birthday as a charity! Can you and your family get involved? We’d love to see what you can come up with each day. You can join in by following us on InstagramFacebook, and Twitter and sharing a picture of your incredible creations and challenges - and don't forget to set up a fundraising page to share with friends and family, too, as an extra challenge!

Thank you!
Thank you to everyone that has donated to our Just Giving and Facebook campaigns so far. In just a few short days you have all helped us reach over 15% of our target and we couldn't be more delighted! We continue to ask for help to support City Catering as we work to meet this increase in care meals and adapt to the changing needs of schools at this time. If you are able, please donate to our Just Giving page or share this link with your networks.

Thank you for continuing to support City Catering Southampton as we carry on with our commitments to feed those in need in Southampton.
